How it works
Drop in your file
XML in UBL 2.1 or CII D16B, or a PDF with the invoice embedded as ZUGFeRD or Factur-X. Drag it in or choose a file — maximum 10 MB.
We detect the format
The BT-24 specification identifier says which syntax and which rules apply, whether the file is XML or a PDF. You do not have to choose.
Read the result
Every error with its rule code, the field it concerns, and where it is in the file.
What we check
- 1 · XML structure (XSD)
Well-formed XML, namespaces and data types. Structural errors stop here. Credit notes are checked too.
- 2 · EN 16931 Business rules
284 rules: required fields, totals, VAT breakdown, code lists.
- 3 · Peppol BIS Billing 3.0
60 more rules: business process, electronic addresses, identifiers.
- 4 · XRechnung (BR-DE)
74 German rules: Leitweg-ID, seller contact, payment methods.

Frequently asked questions
What does this e-invoice validator check?
Four levels: the XML structure against the official schemas (XSD), the EN 16931 business rules (BR-01 to BR-65), the Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 rules and the XRechnung rules (BR-DE). The invoice itself decides which rule sets apply, through its BT-24 specification identifier.
Which formats can I upload?
XML invoices in UBL 2.1 (XRechnung, Peppol BIS 3.0) and UN/CEFACT CII D16B (ZUGFeRD 2.x, Factur-X, XRechnung CII) as well as ZUGFeRD and Factur-X PDFs with embedded XML. The format is recognized automatically.
Is the check really free?
Yes. Checking, error reports and rule codes are free and need no sign-up. There is no limit on how many invoices you can check.
Why is EN 16931 alone not enough?
EN 16931 is the basic European standard. Peppol and XRechnung impose additional rules on top of this: Peppol requires business processes and electronic addresses, while An invoice can be EN-16931 compliant and still undeliverable.
Are my invoices saved?
No. The file is checked in memory and then discarded. There is no database with invoice content and no passing on to third parties.
Which rulebook versions are used?
Checks run against CEN EN 16931 validation-1.3.17, Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 v3.0.20 and KoSIT XRechnung v2.6.0. Every result states the version used.
